Get money to cover eligible expenses for non-commercial projects that improve women’s and girls’ economic security and prosperity, that encourage their participation, leadership and decision-making roles, and that help end violence against women and girls.
The objective of the Women’s Program is to achieve the full participation of women in the economic, social and democratic life of Canada. Funding is provided to eligible organizations in support of projects at the local, regional and national levels that address the following three priority areas:
- Ending violence against women and girls
- Improving women’s and girls’ economic security and prosperity
- Encouraging women and girls in leadership and decision-making roles
Funding is available for time-specific projects that address barriers to women’s participation and equality in Canadian society. Eligible organizations and activities are determined by the Women’s Program’s funding criteria. Funding is not provided for ongoing activities, such as an organization’s operations and administration. Also, as available funds are limited, not all qualified applicants may receive funding.

General eligibility requirements for the Women’s Program
Eligible applicants include legally constituted organizations that are:
- not-for-profit Canadian organizations
- for-profit Canadian organizations, if the nature and intent of the funded activity is non-commercial and not intended to generate profit
- Indigenous governments (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities) and their agencies
- provinces, territories, municipalities and their agencies
- research organizations and institutes, centres of expertise
- educational institutions

- not for profit equality seeking organizations

General eligibility requirements and assessment criteria for Gender-Based Violence Program funding
Eligible recipients include legally constituted organizations that are:
- Not-for-profit Canadian organizations
- Indigenous governments (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities) and their agencies
- Provinces, territories, municipalities and their agencies
- Research organizations and institutes, centres of expertise
- Educational institutions (i.e. universities, colleges, CÉGEPs, secondary schools, school boards / school districts)
- Public health institutions, hospitals, healthcare service providers
- For-profit Canadian organizations, if the nature of the funded activity not intended to generate a profit
- Labour groups and unions
Project activities
Eligible activities include:
- Engagement of target populations who are affected by the issue being addressed by the project
- Surveys and research that generate evidence and knowledge about promising practices to strengthen the GBV sector
- Design of interventions to address service gaps in gender-based violence sector
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Stakeholder engagement and coordination
Ineligible activities are:
- Activities addressing a related issue abroad (e.g. development of promising practices for women in a country other than Canada).
Ineligible costs
Capital expenditures, such as land, buildings, vehicles and other major capital costs, with the exception of computer equipment such as desktops, portables, and small peripherals required to carry out the project.
