Funding for farmer-led projects that fight climate change

Get a grant of up to $100,000 when you partner with agricultural non-profits, Indigenous organizations and environmental groups in your province on a project that stores carbon and/or reduces greenhouse gases.

Agricultural Climate Solutions (ACS) is a multi-stream program that will help to develop and implement farming practices to tackle climate change. Through agricultural practices, such as shelterbelts or cover crops, farmland can store carbon and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

ACS is a program under the more than $4 billion Natural Climate Solutions Fund. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is partnering with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) to develop projects that invest in natural climate solutions, including NRCan’s 2 Billion Trees program and ECCC’s Nature Smart Climate Solutions Fund. These solutions will contribute to meeting Canada’s greenhouse gas reduction targets and provide benefits towards the well-being of all Canadians

The following agriculture sector organization types are eligible to apply for grant funding:

• not-for-profit organizations, including producer organizations
• Indigenous groups

Eligible organizations in Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec are welcome to submit their applications for funding.

Successful applicants will be required to develop a network of project participants to implement their comprehensive project proposal based on the living lab approach. Project participants may include:

• Indigenous groups
• producers
• not-for-profit organizations
• for-profit organizations
• academic institutions
• other federal government departments, including Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)
• provincial and territorial departments and agencies
• municipal governments
